What is commercial real estate? How does it work?

Commercial real estate refers to land or buildings which are intended to generate a profit.    Examples of commercial real estate are office buildings, industrial or “flex” properties, retail space, multifamily, land and more.

How do leasing agents and tenant reps differ?

A leasing agent represents the building owner or landlord, while a tenant representative looks after the interests of the tenant in a commercial transaction.    Having a tenant representative on your side can help you avoid costly mistakes during negotiations.   Best of all, the landlord pays the fees.

What should I look for in a broker?

Experience is key when it comes to real estate transactions.   When you’re entering into a 3, 5, 10 year or longer lease, you need to know you’ve got a seasoned professional negotiating the best deal on your behalf.    Choose a broker with a strong background in your key market, an exciting marketing approach for your business, and someone who is willing to go the extra mile to ensure your satisfaction.

What should I expect from a broker?

You should expect a broker to know the current market, and be able to provide you with the statistics, and information applicable to your business.   Your broker should be able to think outside the box and present options that you might otherwise not have thought of.   A broker brings with him or her a skillset developed to ensure clients benefit from this knowledge.
